- Shayna Jacobs and Kerry Burke

THE 92-YEAR-OLD SoHo woman smothered by her roommate for snoring too loudly was deteriorating for years, neighbors say, but city and state agencies ignored calls for help.

Neighbors say that they saw Veronica Ivins’ languishing away before their eyes. “We called and called and nobody did anything,” Brooklyn Lastra, 34, her neighbor said. The city declined to comment citing legal restrictions.

Ivins’ roomie Enrique Leyva, 47, was so annoyed by her sleep sounds that he told cops that he had wanted to kill her “10 times” before, prosecutors said Friday.

Leyva was held without bail at his arrangement on a murder charge. His lawyer requested a psychiatric evaluation.
