TEBOW TIME
The Mets’ most celebrated minor league outfielder went 0-for3 Saturday and is 1-for-14 this spring for a .071 batting average. The Heisman trophy winner and former NFL quarterback has been hampered by a sprained left ankle and has yet to play the field in any Grapefruit League game.
“That’s still unclear. We’re still making sure he is going to be OK with that foot,” Callaway said. “He feels it on certain movements. If he cut right now, still feel a little sore.”
Mets GM Sandy Alderson said earlier this spring that he thinks Tebow, who returned to baseball in 2016 after 11 years focused solely on football, will play in the major leagues at some point.
“I think he will play in the major leagues. That’s my guess. That’s my hope and to some extent after a year and a half a modest expectation,” Alderson said last month.
