Sherman signs with S.F. for 3 yrs, $39M

-

RICHARD SHERMAN is staying in the NFC West. One day after being released by the Seahawks, Sherman agreed to a three-year deal worth up to $39.15M with the 49ers on Saturday, according to ESPN.

Sherman, who infamously feuded with ex49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree over the years, joins a young and talented San Francisco team that won their final five games of the season behind former Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

Sherman told NFL Network on Friday he was hoping to join a contender.

“Looking for a great fit. A team that has a great quarterback. Looking for somewhere I will be comfortable,” Sherman said.

Since being drafted in the fifth round in 2011, Sherman leads the league in interceptions (32) and passes defended (99) among all defenders, according to ESPN.

Sherman’s play, however, appeared to tail off as of late and the 29-year-old cornerback saw his 2017 season cut short due to a ruptured Achilles. Rather than pay Sherman the $11 million he would’ve been owed, the Seahawks opted to release him, ending his sevenyear tenure with the team.

Sherman previously posted a farewell message to Twitter on Friday shortly after he was released.

“I would like to say thank you to the Seattle Seahawks organization for taking a chance on a kid that was overlooked by many. For that I am forever grateful. …As this chapter comes to a close, I am looking forward to what the future holds,” Sherman wrote.

The four-time Pro Bowler will now face off against his former team two times a season. The Seahawks will now focus on reshaping their defense after cutting ties with Sherman and defensive end Michael Bennett, who Seattle traded to the Eagles Wednesday.

SHELTON TO PATS: Browns GM John Dorsey stayed busy after his whirlwind Friday, dealing defensive tackle Danny Shelton to the Patriots on Saturday. Shelton was drafted by the Browns with the No. 12 overall pick in 2015. The 6-foot-2, 335-pounder started 45 of 46 games in three seasons. —Staff & Wire report
