Suicide shockers

Leap & OD at Stuy Town-Peter Cooper

- Body of a woman, 76, who jumped to her death is wheeled away hours before cops and firemen were at scene of 18-year-old NYU student’s suicide (below).

TWO RESIDENTS of the adjoining Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village developments committed suicide just hours apart on Sunday — a 76-yearold woman who jumped from a building and an 18-year-old NYU student who ingested a chemical.

Just after 8 a.m., the woman jumped to her death from her apartment on the 10th floor of a building on First Ave. near 20th St. in Peter Cooper Village on Manhattan’s East Side.

She died at the scene. Police did not release her name.

Less than five hours later and under a half mile away, police officers rushed to the Stuy Town apartment of an NYU freshman. A panicked friend of the 18-year-old student had called the cops, saying his friend had plans to kill himself.

By the time cops arrived at the man’s apartment on 14th St. near First Ave. about 12:40 p.m., it was already too late.

The teen was lifeless after taking a substance, police said. He had left a suicide note. Police did not immediately identify him.

The city medical examiner’s office will investigate both deaths.
