Airport pistol ‘rap’

-

RAPPER Juelz Santana turned himself in to authorities Sunday, two days after he was caught with a loaded gun at Newark Airport and then made a run for it, Port Authority Police said.

The 36-year-old (photo), whose real name is LaRon James, appeared at the airport police facility at 1 a.m., officials said.

He was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and an unspecified federal warrant. On Friday night, James bolted when agents spotted the weapon, a .38-caliber Derringer.

Monday’s blast went off at 6:45 a.m., police said, after the 17-year-old boy brought the package into his home in the Spring Hill neighborhood and started to open it.

The explosion also injured a 40-year-old woman who was in the house, interim Austin Police Chief Brian Manley told reporters.

Later Monday, just before noon, a second package detonated at the home of a 75-year-old Hispanic woman in Austin’s Montopolis neighborhood.

She was hospitalized in critical condition with non-lifethreatening injuries, authorities said.

“This is the third in what we believe to be related incidents over the past 10 days,” Manley said.

Authorities haven’t released the names of Monday’s victims and said it was unclear if the injured were the intended targets. The March 2 explosion killed 39-year-old Anthony Stephan House and another man at a home on Haverford Drive at about 7 a.m., according to police.

Because these first two victims were black, Manley said detectives have not ruled it out as a bias crime.

But, he added, “assigning a motive is not possible at this stage in the investigation.”
