Cynthia Nixon’s wife quits city job
AS SPECULATION swirls that Cynthia Nixon will run for governor, her wife has left her New York City government job.
Christine Marinoni resigned last week from her Department of Education gig as a special adviser for community partnerships, the department confirmed. Marinoni, who like Nixon is a longtime education activist, was hired by the de Blasio administration in 2014 and was often seen at City Hall. Her departure from the de Blasio and city government orbit may be seen as another step Nixon is taking toward announcing a run.
Nixon, an actress and advocate, is a longtime friend of Mayor de Blasio’s and was one of his most famous supporters — making a potential Nixon run more fodder for de Blasio’s feud with Gov. Cuomo, whom Nixon would be challenging in a primary.
Cuomo’s already suggested he thinks de Blasio might be behind the “Sex and the City” actress’ potential run — saying it was either the mayor or Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Marinoni earned $129,876 at the Department of Education, the city said.
Nixon is reportedly edging closer to entering the race, and has been working with two consultants from de Blasio’s political team — Rebecca Katz and Bill Hyers.
