Wagner tumbles to Baylor

Manu Lecomte had no problems with the NIT’s experiment­al 3-point line, hitting 5 of 8 from distance and scoring 24 points to help Baylor beat Wagner, 80-59, in the first round on Tuesday night in Waco.

Baylor, a top-seed, made seven of its first 11 shots and held eighth-seeded Wagner to 3-of-23 shooting in the first quarter to take a 21-9 lead. After Wagner went on an 11-2 second-quarter run to pull to 29-22, Lecomte capped an 11-3 run with his fourth 3-pointer of the half to make it 40-25. It was Lecomte’s 10th 20-plus game of the season.

Blake Francis hit four 3-pointers and scored 23 points for Wagner (23-10).

l University of Connecticu­t women’s basketball coach Geno Auriemma says he has no doubt he could coach the school’s men’s basketball team and enjoy it. But the 63-year-old Auriemma says at his age, he has no interest in starting over as a men’s coach.

UConn fired Kevin Ollie on Saturday after a second consecutiv­e losing season. Auriemma’s name has been among those mentioned as a possible successor. His teams have won 11 NCAA titles.

“If I do that, I’ve got to start all over like I’m 35 years old again; kill myself,” he said. “I mean, would I do it? I could do it. Would I enjoy doing it? I would enjoy it. Do I want to do it? No.”

JET WAIVES COURT APPEARANCE

Jets linebacker Dylan Donahue has waived his first court appearance on charges stemming from a wrong-way crash in the Lincoln Tunnel last month.

Police allege that Donahue was drunk when he drove the wrong way in the tunnel on Feb. 26 and collided with a jitney bus, injuring four of the 15 people on board.

RUTGERS NIXES WNIT

After failing to get a berth in the women’s basketball NCAA Tournament, Rutgers and coach C. Vivian Stringer decided not to play in the WNIT.

DOUBLES GREAT FLACH DIES

Ken Flach, who won four Grand Slam titles in men’s doubles and two in mixed doubles, has died, according to the ATP World Tour and Internatio­nal Tennis Federation. He was 54. The ATP World Tour announced Tuesday that Flach died Monday night in California after a brief illness.
