Shkreli IQ boast shown to be pharma-joke
MARTIN SHKRELI wanted to show the world his shrink’s analysis — to prove his smarts and emotional stability, according to court documents.
“I want to watch the press squirm when they see I have a 150 IQ and no overt psychological issues,” the Pharma Bro wrote in a January email from jail, according to sentencing papers.
In a footnote, prosecutors said the psychological evaluation supplied by the defense didn’t say Shkreli had an IQ of 150. But the evaluation did offer diagnoses for certain conditions, the filing noted.
The less redacted version of the sentencing papers were filed a week after Shkreli was sentenced to seven years for his fraud convictions.
Shkreli penned his email before seeing the final report. During his tearful speech to Judge Kiyo Matsumoto last week, Shkreli called the evaluation “a stunning revelation.”
During the sentencing, both sides delved into Shkreli’s mind, and if it was justification to cut him some slack. The findings didn’t support leniency, as far as prosecutors were concerned.
