Bridge worker among Fla. span dead
AN EMPLOYEE working onsite has been identified as one of the six people killed after a pedestrian bridge designed to connect Florida International University to a nearby Miami suburb collapsed onto the busy highway below.
Structural Technologies VSL, a company offering products to strengthen bridges, said Navaro Brown, 37, a company employee, died Thursday.
A Florida International University freshman, Alexa Duran, 18, was also killed when the 950-ton bridge crumbled to the ground and crushed her car, her family confirmed.
Other confirmed dead include Rolando Fraga, 60; Osvaldo Gonzalez, 58, and Alberto Arias, 54.
Authorities said they do not believe there are any more survivors trapped under the debris.
