casionally when Brett Gardner gets a day off against a southpaw.

Stanton has looked a little more comfortable there of late. He caught a pair of fly balls on Sunday, though he couldn’t track down a sinking liner off the bat of Scott Van Slyke, which he just missed despite a sliding effort and wound up as a double. “I’m moving side-to-side better, getting better reads, I got a lot out there today,” Stanton joked.

Asked how often he expects to play out there, Stanton replied: “Who knows? Be prepared for a lot. And then be ready for a little if that’s the case.”

Stanton got his first hit since homering off Matt Harvey on March 10.

Asked what he needs to finish off before the spring ends, Stanton replied: “Be better in left, of course. I’m going to be getting better all year at that, and just more at-bats under my belt and I’ll be ANDREW SAVULICH/ NEWS ready to go.”

Stanton will be playing in a big market for the first time, and it will be interesting to see how he handles adversity in New York. “I still have to perform the way I can, too," Stanton replied when asked about the lineup’s potential. “I’ll get help on days I don’t produce, but I’m part of that lineup so we’re all a whole.”
