RED AND GREEN SALSAS

-

There are two reasons to order your food to stay at A&E Tenochtitlan Deli & Taqueria, run by Carlos Diaz, his wife Nancy Hernandez, and several other family members. Those are the red and green salsas, the latter an extra hot, creamy blend of spicy green chilis, tomatillos, avocado, cilantro and lemon juice. Get your food to go, and you miss out on big bowls of that at the table.

Both salsas are great over tacos ($3), quesadillas ($8), Mexican eggs ($8 with rice and beans), or memelas, little boats of griddled corn meal dough painted with salsa then sprinkled with cheese and meats like salted beef or spicy pork.

A&E Tenochtitlan Deli & Taqueria is also a go-to for its daily specials like the weekend barbacoa, or roast goat; and soups like caldo de cameron, a brick-red bowl of shrimp, noodles and carrots served with sweet raw onion, cilantro and toasted whole dried chilis ($10).

A&E Tenochtitlan Deli & Taqueria: 2445 Creston Ave., near E. 188th St., Bronx; (646) 664-7875
