Prez’s latest lawyers say hi, then bye

PRESIDENT TRUMP claims plenty of good lawyers want to work with him — even as two of them bowed out of joining his legal team.

Jay Sekulow, a Trump attorney outside the White House, said Sunday that husband-and-wife team Joseph diGenova and Victoria Toensing wouldn’t represent the President for special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

That came just days after Sekulow announced the veteran Washington lawyers were coming onboard, as lead attorney John Dowd decided to leave the team.

“The president is disappointed that conflicts prevent Joe diGenova and Victoria Toensing from joining the president’s special counsel legal team,” Sekulow said in a statement, which didn’t elaborate on what kept them off the job.

The pair’s conflict don’t stop them from helping Trump with “other legal matters,” said Sekulow, who didn’t say what those might be.

DiGenova is a former U.S. attorney and a Fox News contributor who’s accused the Justice Department of trying to “frame” the President. Toensing represents several former Trump officials — including ex-spokesman Mark Corallo — who’ve met with Mueller’s investigators.

Trump signaled a change was coming earlier Sunday, when he tweeted: “Many lawyers and top law firms want to represent me in the Russia case. Fame & fortune will NEVER be turned down by a lawyer, though some are conflicted.”
