Body found in East River near L.I.C.
THE BODY of a man with a prosthetic leg surfaced in the East River on Tuesday afternoon, wedged between two barges, police sources said.
The body was spotted in the water off 44th Drive in Long Island City, Queens, not far from the landmarked Pepsi-Cola sign at about 5 p.m., and clad in a blue shirt and black running pants.
Investigators believe the body (photo) is that of a 72-year-old man who went missing from the neighborhood two weeks ago, police sources said. Cops had not formally identified him as of early Wednesday, pending family notification.
The city medical examiner’s office will determine how the man died, police said.
