ON TWEETERS

THE MTA’s transit chief faced a throng of angry riders Thursday morning — on Twitter. NYC Transit President Andy Byford and his chief customer officer, Sarah Meyer, held the MTA’s first #AskNYCT Twitter Q&A with riders and a few reporters, answering 43 questions on the @ NYCTSubway account. Byford, who was the first MTA agency chief to hold a social media chat, said he planned to have monthly Twitter talks. “I’m laser-focused on increasing reliability to improve customers’ experiences,” Byford (left) wrote on Twitter. The questions covered topics ranging from weekend disruptions and installing more elevators to delays and the rising number of homeless people on trains. He even fielded a few personal questions. In response to a query from Brooklyn City Councilman and Rtrain critic Justin Brannan, Byford said the Smiths are his favorite band. Twitter user Summer Hyde asked who schedules track work and maintenance, writing that “lately getting in & out of Queens has been a nightmare.” “We’re catching up with decades of underinvestment, which makes this challenging,” Byford responded.
