Melania is better than Hillary
Mechanicsville, W. Va.: Hillary, unlike Melania, wanted to be President, and it was a cold political calculation to put up with the humiliation of Bill (S.E. Cupp column, “Dump Trump,” March 28). From the moment that she decided to run for the Senate, it was obvious to everyone with half a brain that her ultimate goal was the presidency. Her higher ambitions blinded her and, at the same time, bound her to the fortunes of her husband. She was a flawed candidate whose main reason for running was that it was her turn.
Would she have been a better President than Trump? Without question, but then again, I would be a better President than Trump. That bar is that low.
The Democratic Party should have kicked President Clinton to the curb, and they compounded that error by elevating a candidate with more baggage than a sultan going on spring break. Robert Nash
What affairs of state?
Central Islip, L.I.: I thought S. E. Cupp’s article about Trump and his alleged was interesting until her last sentence: Melania should “leave her jerk of a husband.” Cupp, you are the jerk! Who made you judge and jury? Has anything been proven about Trump’s affairs yet? No! If you want to be a journalist, get your facts straight. Jerk.

Unfair Trump bashers
Yonkers: I completely agree with Voicer Lisa Berman in her tirade against the Daily News for its daily assault against President Trump. From Trump’s announcement to run for the presidency — and every day since — the ultra-liberal “reporters” and “editorialists” of the Daily Rag have been lambasting Trump. Under the Obama administration, the same bleeding-heart journalists — including one or two who can’t decide what race they are — praised everything that anti-American ultra-liberal divider ever did.

Outrageous advice
Ozone Park: Your newspaper is turning into the National Enquirer. How dare you tell the President’s wife to leave her husband? I didn’t see your headlines about Hillary and her husband. President Trump is going to be the best President in history, and just in case you don’t know, the so-called sex incident that porn star talks about happened 11 years ago. Who cares? Miriam Rodriguez
Poor choice
Manalapan, N.J.: Why did you put advice to the lovelorn on the cover of Wednesday’s paper when you could have used that space to honor the hero firefighter instead? Unless Melania Trump has just landed from the planet Bizarro, I am sure she knew what she was getting into. Besides, not my monkeys, not my circus! The hero firefighter, Michael Davidson, deserved the front page and not just a short mention on page 6. Let’s talk about decency, dedication, bravery, family and service. I am sick of porn stars, who had sex with who, how much they paid. Let’s show our children real heroes. May this brave man rest in peace and may his family be consoled. Maria Mastromarino
Questions about a tragedy
Long Beach, N.J.: I was saddened to learn of the death of FDNY Firefighter Michael Davidson. However, a few questions come to mind. It’s been reported that he ran out of compressed air and collapsed. How much compressed air did he have to begin with? Who was monitoring how long he was inside and how much air he had remaining? Why didn’t he have a spare air tank? Yes, this is Saturday-morning quarterbacking. However, maybe the answers will save a life in the future.

Equal opportunity offenders
Staten Island: To Voicer Diane Baisley: You are wrong. The Daily News goes after anyone, regardless of political parties. Obama was my President, and I didn’t like it when The News went after him for shutting down the government to keep the Affordable Care Act. But what Trump is doing is worse. He didn’t think this through and really study when he started running for President. I am not going to list all the things that have been going on in this administration; I am sure you are an informed reader, just in denial.

Trumpian disrespect
Manhattan: To Voicer Diane Baisley: You are horrified at the disrespect of Trump? What about the disrespect Trump has shown this country? He has endangered our national security by embracing Vladimir Putin and ignoring the election threats and attacks on our national grid, displayed instability in the firings of cabinet members, his constant lies (e.g. the trade imbalance with Canada), his disregard of the science of climate change, his relations with women, his racism, his disrespect of handicapped people, his dismantling of good EPA regulations that oversee and restrict farmers’ use of pesticides (DuPont will benefit from this, but not the public), his failure to stand up to the NRA, his hypocritical embrace of the evangelicals to gain their support . . . I could go on forever, but I think you get the point. And can you imagine if Obama ever got involved with women like Trump does? He would have been impeached.

Time well-deserved
New Windsor, N.Y.: To Voicer Carol Yost: You wondered what life might have been if you had spent 45 years in jail for murder like Herman Bell did to those officers? Always remember the late Sammy Davis Jr.’s line from the 1970s cop show “Baretta”: Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time. Todd Schuster
Poor target for sympathy
Elmont, L.I.: To the Voicer (and I’m not going to give her name more ink) who is “very distressed” about the possibility of cop killer Herman Bell not getting parole: Perhaps you should seek professional help. I’m sure the family members of the three police officers who fell victim to this miscreant’s blatant refusal to conform to the laws of society are more than “very distressed” about the possibility that this cold-blooded murderer might see the light of day. Thank God that you are in the minority of this type of insane thinking. Jimmy Schmitt
Not just the guns
Brooklyn: It’s an epic move for teens to have established the March for Our Lives movement and I personally hope it sparks change. However, where are their murderous peers during this movement — the ones who are a threat, stealing weapons and barging into schools to kill their classmates? Teens have every right to attack the NRA and politicians on gun reform, but what about the potentially deadly classmate they’re sitting next to who has violent emotional issues? Who’s advocating/talking directly to the teens who are in possession of weapons and plan to shoot up a school? Rallies to get help for potentially violent peers and other teenagers who act on vengeance should be at the forefront of conversation. Dara Mormile
Assailant, not victim
Brooklyn: Re “Man who claims he burned Natalee Holloway’s remains fatally stabbed during attempted kidnapping,” (March 15): I fear that by calling the perpetrator of an attempted kidnapping (John Christopher Ludwick) — who was killed during the commission of the crime — a victim, The News is inadvertently and erroneously assigning him not only sympathy but also a lack of guilt. The actual victim in this case was the woman who stabbed the kidnapper to death in self-defense.
Oh, the pain
GETTY IMAGES In this situation, he is simply the deceased. And rightfully so. Brian Christian III Medford, L.I.: Another drug trafficker from Mexico was caught with 44 pounds of fentanyl. These are the lowlifes that the CDC and DEA should be targeting, not legitimate pain patients who depend on opiates to relieve their debilitating pain from chronic illnesses. I’m sitting here in terrible pain from a flare-up due to chronic pancreatitis and I’m being forced to taper my dose because of people like this. Our elected officials need to step up and create guidelines to protect pain patients everywhere. Target those who are the real cause of this crisis. Leave pain-management doctors alone to treat those of us with intractable pain. Elizabeth Miserendino
Can you afford The News today
Saylorsburg, Pa.: I was just informed by my local newspaper vendor that as of April 16, the price of the Daily News is being raised to $1.50 and the Saturday edition will be $2. Since I, and others here, only get the Metro Final edition, these prices boggle my mind. Bad enough $1.50 for a Monday through Friday edition, but to have Saturday at $2 is ridiculous. Saturday’s paper offers way less in content than the Monday through Friday editions, so Saturdays we will pay more for less. Oh, maybe it’s because Saturday has three crossword puzzles. Could that be it?
