Bruce side man hit by E St. bandit

- Larry McShane

A TEXAS THIEF showed no mercy to rocker Nils Lofgren, stealing four of the E Street Band member’s favorite guitars and his electric harp.

“I am devastated by this robbery,” the brilliant guitarist tweeted after the Thursday night theft. “These are my first shows out after a very difficult year.”

The instruments were swiped from a van parked outside a Holiday Inn Express in West Oak Cliff, Texas.

Lofgren came out the next morning to find three Takamine acoustic guitars, an electric Fender Stratocaster and the harp all missing.

Even without the instruments, he said he would figure out a way to play a scheduled Friday night show in Dallas.

“It won’t be the show I was planning on,” Lofgren tweeted. “However I do plan on taking the roof off.”

The Kessler Theater date was the second on a solo tour for Lofgren, 66, who joined Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band in 1984.

“Musicians are supposed to honor other musicians,” tweeted E Street Band bassist Garry Tallent. “This is a travesty.”
