Police shootings demand justice

-

Brooklyn: Where is the “presidential tweet” pertaining to the unjustified murder of yet another innocent black soul taken by the hands of our police force — Stephon Clark, 22 years old, killed on March 18 in his grandmother’s backyard in Sacramento, Calif.? This is the reason why the #BlackLivesMatter movement was created and why it is as necessary as the #MeToo, #TimesUp, and #MarchForOurLives movements exist.

This movement, sadly, is necessary in order to spread the message of “Enough Is Enough.” Yes, all lives matter. However, in America and as the world watches what is happening in our country, it shows all that “Black Lives Don’t Matter.” That people of color are fair targets for your fears, hatred, stereotyped racism, and racist point of views. Enough Is enough.

This is the reason for Colin Kaepernick taking a knee, and for those who followed. It was not an action against America, nor was it against the men and women who serve this country bravely (by the way, the armed forces and the families of these brave soldiers abound with persons of color abound). It is the reason for Chris Rock’s current onstage joke with the underlined truth that America is still refusing to acknowledge by that the problem still exist. Enough is enough. God, (please) bless America (for all). Debra Justin

Brothers in arms

Tucson, Ariz.: Cousins is a saint (“DeMarcus Cousins offers to pay for Stephon Clark’s funeral,” March 24). Not too many “higher-ups” use their, what I would call, “a passion for youth” this way. I applaud this young man. Honestly, we need so many more like him. Felix R. Vargas

Let the critters play

Philadelphia: To Voicer Tom Lyon trying to bully the AfricanAmerican centered UniverSOUL Circus (coming to Barclays) to perform without animals: What Lyon should do is to save up to get tickets for Cirque du Soleil when they come to MSG or Barclays instead of bullying UniverSOUL to be like Soleil — no critters but plenty of spandex-clad Power Ranger rejects! I support critters in showbiz. Humans should not be the only entertainers; critters can be too! Curtis J. Livingston

Betraying the young people

Manhattan: Kenneth Lovett writes that “groups like the Catholic Church, the Orthodox Jewish community and the Boy Scouts of America vehemently oppose” the Child Victims Act (“Push to get Child Victims Act into state spending plan on ‘life support’,” March 26). While I do not want to downplay Orthodoxy’s complicity in this, I do want to note that there are some Orthodox rabbis who have been advocating tirelessly for the CVA for years now and totally stand with victims. I am an Orthodox rabbinical student (and former Boy Scout) and last month I and another Orthodox rabbi led a contingency from Uri L’Tzedek, an Orthodox Jewish social justice organization, to Albany to advocate for CVA as part of the Pass CVA Coalition. Those opposing CVA are members of the Agudath Israel, which, though large in numbers and influence in Albany, only represents the most fundamentalist, right-wing contingency of the Orthodox community. In many cases Agudath Israel even advocates for victims of abuse to turn to rabbis, not law enforcement, after being abused, a position I and many Orthodox rabbis vehemently oppose. The CVA should be a no-brainer consensus issue. Those opposing it and pressuring the Senate GOP-IDC coalition to not vote on it are not representing many of the people they claim to represent. Forgotten workers

Oak Bridge, N.J.: Unbeknownst to the majority of New Yorkers is the fact that a labor dispute has been going on between 1800 Local 3 IBEW members and their so called employer, Spectrum Communications. March 20 marked one full year of families with no paychecks, no support from the media, and the elected officials who promise the world and deliver nothing. Spectrum is a company run by corporate greed, with executives making millions while the backbone of their company, the workers, the everyday men and women of America, are made to starve. People are losing their homes, families are broken and there is a media blackout. This is union busting at its best and if something isn’t done soon, I fear labor is about to crumble. Companies will hire ex-convicts, unskilled and untrained workers much like those Spectrum is letting in to the homes of their customers. It’s okay. The time is coming. The labor movement is not going away. My husband’s livelihood and our family as well as countless others depend on it. They have put their lives into it and they won’t let it be taken away.

Model, yes, but no role ‘model’

Bronx: I think it’s nuts for S.E Cupp to call on Melania Trump to set an example for young girls (“Dump Trump, March 26). I would never look to Melania Trump to begin with, she is not a role model. Melania obviously married to Donald Trump because of the money. I don’t see her as First Lady material. Melania being a model and in that circle, she knew clearly what a creep Donald was. I’m sure just like Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal, Melania back then felt very special. Trump picked her from among other beautiful ladies. Michelle Obama was well educated and beautiful but most in this country didn’t see her as First lady material. Sorry, S.E Cupp. Bernadette Beauchamp

Late notice

Rockville Centre, L.I.: In comparing the Daily News headline of Trump’s golfing to Obama’s golfing, Voicer Frank Strazzera writes that he doesn’t recall the Daily News printing a similar headline in regards to when Obama went golfing after the beheading of James Foley. Well, allow me to remind him that had he done a simple internet search, he would have seen the Daily News headline printed on the front page “Bam’s Golf War” on Aug. 21, 2014, the day after the incident. I look forward to his four-year-belated letter, complaining about “another blatantly bipartisan piece of trash” headline. Rocco Sinisi

Pence for your thoughts

Bronx: With all the chaos going on within the Trump House, Mike Pence sits quietly watching, waiting and biding his time.

Busty blondes

Stockholm, N.J.: This issue with Trump is a mess. Who to believe? On one side, you have a dyed blonde, with big boobs and on the other side. . . is Stormy Daniels!

Revolting youth

Brooklyn: A number of Voicers have extolled youth as an agent of change. True, but Hitler, Mussolini, Stalin, Mao and every other modern dictator were popular and supported by the young, as Putin is today. For every anti-war Vietnam protest, there is a Cultural Revolution or two to give perspective to the downside of what youth wants and does.

Hands in our pockets

Greenwood Lake, N.Y.: The News says the only time our for-sale governor and the NYC REUTERS mayor speak with one voice is when the issue is important enough. No, the only time they speak with one voice is when there is money to be had from the hard working people of New York. They just haven’t figured out how to get their grubby little paws on it for their own pet projects instead of what it was meant for. Any bets that when they pass this, and despite all the outward appearances of opposition, they will pass congestion pricing, how much do you really think will make it to its intended purpose? No Mighty Quinn? Oh, no!

Congers, N.Y.: I just learned from the Voice of the People page that the Daily News is planning to drop the amazing Mighty Quinn column. This is wrong, wrong, wrong. Mighty’s little column is a beacon of light when all of the news is dark and depressing (including the sports pages). Please, please reconsider. Mighty means so much to so many, and he promotes wonderful causes. Just don’t do it. As President of the Rockland County Chapter of the MQFC, I beg you to please let him continue to represent the regular people of the metropolitan area.

FAN-ing the flames

Breezy Point, L.I.: Re "FranDog reunite, rip FAN" (March 29): Talk about biting the hand that fed you. Where would either of these blowhards be if not for WFAN? What ingrates!
