Donald damns DACA to hell

On the holiest day of the Christian calendar, President Trump threw the lives of hundreds of thousands of people brought to this country as children, who contribute to their communities and country and whom he promised to protect, in deepest disarray. “NO MORE DACA DEAL” was Trump’s Easter Sunday tweet. “DACA is dead because the Democrats didn’t care or act” was Monday’s followup. Deep breaths. Simple truths. If the program that gave temporary legal status to undocumented immigrants brought here by their parents is “dead,” Trump should take a page from O.J. Simpson and launch a search for the real killer. It would take him about as as far as his bathroom mirror.

Trump is the one who, after calling for treating Dreamers “with heart,” yanked President Obama’s executive order. Who, after calling for a “bill of love,” sabotaged a bipartisan deal to write its protections into law.

Who then ignored subsequent generous Democratic inducements like $25 billion for the President’s coveted border wall.

Monday, Trump aimed his rabid rage at caravans of Hondurans fleeing unrest in their country through Mexico, jumping on the “DACA bandwagon.” But none of these people would in any way, shape or form be eligible for Dreamer status.

If Trump ever had any good-faith wish for saving DACA, a goal supported by 70% to 90% of the American public, that’s long gone. He’s become servant to the tiny minority of the American public that wants all undocumented immigrants gone. To make America great again, he runs roughshod over its welcoming spirit.
