Qns. crew eyed in rob spree
AN ARMED RAID on a Long Island pharmacy may be the work of a Queensbased crew responsible for two similar robberies in the borough, police sources said Tuesday.
The three men, wearing ski masks, entered a CVS in Port Jefferson about 3:40 a.m., Suffolk County cops said.
Brandishing firearms, the suspects restrained at least one store employee before emptying the shelves of prescription narcotics and speeding away in a getaway car. No injuries were reported.
Sources said that cops chased their vehicle through Nassau County into Queens, where they disappeared.
Detectives have linked the raid to a mini-robbery spree in Queens that began on March 7, when two armed thieves held up a Walgreens on Rockaway Blvd. near Lefferts Blvd. in South Ozone Park about 5 a.m. The gunmen stole an assortment of prescription drugs.
The masked crooks (photos) held a repeat performance four days later at a CVS on 89th Ave. near Springfield Blvd. in Queens Village, cops said.
No one was injured in either heist.
A source with knowledge of the case said the duo may be responsible for several other robberies at chain pharmacies in Long Island, as well as New Jersey.
Because the suspects crossed state lines, the source said, it “looks like the FBI might get involved.”
