Body of missing CDC doc found
A BODY discovered near the Chattahoochee River in Georgia has been identified as a Center for Disease Control and Prevention employee who vanished nearly two months ago.
Timothy Cunningham’s remains were found in Northwest Atlanta on Tuesday, and authorities confirmed his identity Thursday.
The 35-year-old, an epidemiologist at the CDC, went home sick from work and Feb. 12 and had not been heard from since.
His parents found his phone, wallet, car keys and his dog at his home.
The day he disappeared, Atlanta police said Cunningham (photo) learned he was not being promoted to branch manager — but the CDC has since denied that Cunningham was passed over.
“In fact, he received an early promotion/exceptional proficiency promotion to Commander effective July 1, 2017 in recognition of his exemplary performance in the U.S. Public Health Service,” the agency said.
A Morehouse College and Harvard University graduate, Cunningham has played a pivotal role in addressing past public health emergencies — including the Ebola and Zika viruses.
