Rug pulled out from mentally ill
Albany: I commend the excellent Daily News editorial “Mentally ill, nowhere to go” (April 1). The National Alliance on Mental Illness-New York State wholeheartedly agrees that despite the success of ThriveNYC, people with severe mental illness continue to fall through the cracks as long-term hospital beds increasingly diminish. New York State continues to reduce state hospital beds without making the necessary investments in mental health housing with support services.
Without hospital beds or mental health housing, we will surely see more tragic and costly outcomes including homelessness, suicide, entry into the criminal justice system and overdependence on emergency rooms that are ill-equipped to handle those in psychiatric crisis. New York cannot continue to ignore this issue. We also want to express our gratitude to the Daily News for showcasing this issue in a non-stigmatizing manner. Matthew Shapiro

What anti-Semite?
Bronx: If Voicer Nelson Marans would research the substantiated recollection in the New York Times of Richard Sanders Rosenthal, who recounted in 1990 a ranting black man’s antiSemitic diatribe in 1963 or 1964 at a Malcolm X honorarium at the Young Socialites Club at Wayne State University in Detroit, he might discover it was Malcolm X who respectfully spared the Jewish moderator the job of silencing the ranter by rising and ordering him to “Shut up and sit down!” Carmen H. Mason
Secret source
Manhattan: Graham Rayman discredits his profession and himself by not naming the “former high ranking NYPD chief” who seeks to discredit Deputy Chief Michael Osgood (“A ‘gift’ for grab,” April 3). Based on the history of back-stabbing and under-the-bus throwing of NYPD politics, the story thus becomes a personal vendetta and Rayman became the flunky delivering the message.

The law above the law
Brooklyn: Why does the NYPD exempt themselves from “No Standing Any Time” parking laws but would issue a summons to you if you did the same? Are they above the law, Mayor de Blasio?
Rick W. Hunter
Test of the test
New Rochelle, N.Y.: Students should only get into elite high schools if they’ve got the goods (“Nabes left out of HS prestige,” April 3). They shouldn’t if they can’t read, write, do math and otherwise meet the high standards of these schools. That neighborhoods are underrepresented counts for nothing, if the schools there are underfunded and in poor condition, it’s New York City’s and Mayor de Blasio’s fault. Bring them all up to the mark, and then we may see more outlying neighborhoods represented. Richard Watt
Choose care-fully
Forest Hills: Regarding the horrific death of 3-year-old Bella Edwards, it is tragic that her mother didn’t understand that her first priority was to protect her child (“Stepdad a killer: DA,” April 4). What was she thinking leaving her daughter alone with a violent convicted felon? Was having a man in the house that important that she endangered the life of her children?

Tuned out
Massapequa, L.I.: To Voicer Bob Bascelli, who claims we need a new generation to go out and vote, vote, vote, to ensure we don’t have another Trump: I for one do not want a generation of Tides Pod-eating, condom-snorting, pussy hat-wearing babies anywhere near a voting both. Do you? This snowflake generation isn’t “plugged in the electorate” . . . they are only plugged into iPhones and Instagram.

Name-calling disgrace
Jackson Heights: It truly sickens me every time I read yet another story in which President Trump uses some form of derogatory nickname to refer to a public personage with whom he disagrees - in this case Gov. Jerry Brown of California. And, as per usual, President Trump distorts and/or lies about the facts of what actually happened to make his point. As a former substitute school teacher in the New York City school system, I was always admonishing my young students to not call their fellow students names, but rather to identify specific real behaviors to which they object. As befits the highest office of the land, Trump should be a role model for these students; rather, he demonstrates the most immature behavior possible.

Count all the foreigners
Avon, Conn.: I’m perplexed. Doesn’t the US government need to know just who is in this country? All Americans need to know where their tax dollars are spent. Why all the hullabaloo about asking about citizenship for the Census? I would go further, and ask about green card holders, student visa, work visas. The fact is, politicians don’t really care who is living in our country . . . they want to retain their control. Sad. Sharmayne R. Wesler
First Ladies first
Trumbull, Conn.: Shame on Jimmy Kimmel for his disgraceful monologue about Melania Trump. He belittled the First Lady over her preparations for the Easter Egg Roll. He made fun of her accent, her reading and everything else she did. Was he there when Michelle Obama dyed the eggs and filled the baskets and planned the event during her time in the White House?

Tilted writing
Ridgewood, N.J.: I stopped reading the Daily News for facts a long time ago, because of the ugliness of certain columnists like Linda Stasi and Harry Siegel. I read it for entertainment value and for local news. And then you see Voicers who are ignorant Democrats like Matt Easow, Mary Gilles, and Don DeMartino. I know it because they believe everything they read, which is usually fake news. And I’m a Democrat. People like them killed journalism; it doesn’t exist anymore. People are right: Trump could cure cancer and people would still disparage him. Very sad. Jeanette LaRocco
Amazon warrior
Brooklyn: Why does President Trump hate Amazon so much? Doesn’t he realize that a lot of Trump supporters, like myself, buy all of our Trump shirts, hats, stickers, keychains, pictures and buttons from Amazon! And yes, because we live in New York we get charged tax on most of the items. And who doesn’t love paying with points? MAGA.

Bring back Quinn
Manhattan: Thank you to all the Voicers protesting losing Mighty Quinn. I agree! That is the first thing I read every day. The Daily News has taken so much away from us already, notably a rundown of available entertainment, Broadway shows, movie ads, etc. Please leave MQ alone. He is a breath of fresh air. Sherrel Cox
Let’s not be Frank
Coram, L.I.: Frank Stallone unloading on Parkland, Fla., shooting survivor, David Hogg, calling him a b---h and a p---y, shows just how classless and gutless he himself is. This young man and his fellow students are taking the reins in creating poignant awareness of the gun crazy violence sweeping our country, where adults, and particularly politicians, have failed miserably. I’m afraid Stallone is the b---h and p---y in this scenario, with clearly nothing constructive to bring to the table. Time for you to slink back under your brother’s shadow. Dennis Griffin
Missing Rusty
JEFFERSON SIEGEL Manhattan: Like all New Yorkers, my family is truly saddened by the passing of Rusty Staub, who meant so much to all New Yorkers, be they Mets or Yankees fans (like us). As dangerous a hitter as there was when he played, and one of the greatest humanitarians NYC has ever seen. We were regular patrons of one of Rusty’s restaurants. Besides the great food (best baby back ribs ever), we enjoyed talking to Rusty, who was friendly, kind and very approachable. Sometimes, he would just stop our mom in the middle of the street and would talk to her. It seemed that he never viewed himself as being different or better than anyone else. RIP, Rusty. You were a true blessing on this Earth!

Sticking with Mr. Wright
Yonkers: To Voicer Terri DeGiglio: Why should David Wright listen to your nonsense advice to, as you said, “give it up”? He owes himself as well as the team owners every opportunity to see if he can still play. It’s not your money he’s taking. Leave him alone. How would you like someone else to tell you to give up whatever dream you may have? Some Mets fan you are! Francisco Matos
