MET GAME DAY

-

WASHINGTON — These Mets are resilient. Twice Saturday, the Nationals took the lead and twice the Mets answered, rallying for a run in the sixth and two in the seventh for a 3-2 win at Nationals Park.

It was the fourth game this young season the Mets had broken a tie or come from behind to win, a characteristic that manager Mickey Callaway likes in this team. “It’s very important, we’re very pleased with it so far,” Callaway said. “I think our guys go out there and they grind out every inning, whether the other team scores or not. But it’s always good to see them come back and score a run after the other team has.”

Amed Rosario started the winning rally in the seventh with a leadoff single off righthander Brandon Kintzler, then scored from first on Asdrubal Cabrera’s double into the right-field corner to tie the game at 2-2. Cabrera aggressively took third on Yoenis Cespedes’ groundout to third and scored on Frazier's slow groundout. Jeurys Familia came in for a five-out save. Hansel Robles, who had struck out six of the seven batters he faced heading into Saturday’s game, gave up the go-ahead home run to Bryce Harper in the sixth. He picked up the win.

Steven Matz, who lost his debut start, bounced back, holding the Nationals to three hits and one unearned run over five innings. He struck out eight, including five in a row after a leadoff single to Trea Turner in the first.

The Nationals scored their first run on aggressive baserunning and an error. Michael Taylor reached on Todd Frazier's error to lead off the fifth. Brian Goodwin sacrificed him to second. Taylor stole third then scored on Pedro Severino's humpback line drive.
