Nothing but a headache!

New Yank Drury is sidelined with migraines

- BY JOHN HEALY

The Yankees’ decision to place Brandon Drury on the 10-day disabled list with severe migraines on Saturday comes with a whole basket of concerns for the third baseman.

Drury said that he has been battling migraines and blurry vision for “a long time” and has been experiencing the most recent symptoms since spring training, which the Yankees were unaware of until Friday night.

GM Brian Cashman told the Daily News that Drury revealed to the team that it has been an on and off issue for the last six years.

“This was the first we’ve heard it was a recurring issue,” Cashman said. “Our plan is to get him the best available medical treatment and see if we can pinpoint why it’s happening.”

Cashman said Drury, 25, did tell trainers he was experiencing a headache last week in Toronto and was given Excedrin, which was the extent of the team’s knowledge of any headache issues.

Cashman also said that the Diamondbacks had given Drury an MRI in 2016 for migraines, but it came back clean.

Drury is expected to undergo further tests on Monday at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, which manager Aaron Boone hopes will provide some answers.

“I spoke to him at length in my office this morning and it’s something we’re very concerned about,” said Boone. “Hopefully we can start to get some answers and start to get him the proper health and put something like this behind him.”

Drury, who was acquired via trade from the Diamondbacks at the start of spring training, said before Saturday’s game that it reached a point on Friday where he could not continue to fight through it.

“Been the same all year. Whether it’s a good game or bad game, I’ve had it. I’ve known it,” he said. “My vision was not right and I just battled through it and now I just don’t want to play with that. I got to figure out what’s going on.”

Drury had gone hitless in his last 10 atbats and did not play Thursday before being pulled out of the game in the sixth inning Friday.

“My vision is very blurry and it’s baseball — I need to have my eyes to be able to play,” he said. “Last few games I feel like I haven’t been close to what I have been at physically to play this game and help the team win games.”
