Suicide leap in front of R train in Astoria

A MAN WAS killed when he jumped in front of a Queens subway train Sunday, officials said.

The victim, who was not immediatel­y identified, leaped in front of a Manhattanb­ound R train inside the Steinway St. station in Astoria about 9:55 a.m., according to cops. He died at the scene.

The train operator saw the man jump from the platform as the train pulled into the station but was unable to stop in time.

“One of the MTA officials . . . told us there was a horrible accident and we had to evacuate,” said Nick Haby, 29, who was riding the R train to Penn Station.
