The man was in contact with the city’s health services, but authorities didn’t give reasons why.
Authorities have searched the four apartments and several cars the attacker owned looking for clues, Muenster police said.
Police searching the silver-gray van used in Saturday’s attack found illegal firecrackers disguised to look like a bomb, a fake pistol and the gun the driver used to shoot himself.
A search of the man’s Muenster apartment near the crash scene turned up more firecrackers and a “no-longer usable AK-47 machine gun,” authorities said.
Police also found several bottles and canisters bioethanol.
The two victims killed Saturday were a 51-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man. Their names were not released, which is customary in Germany.
Some of the injured were hospitalized with life-threatening conditions, and victims included Dutch citizens, authorities said.
“This was a horrible and sad day for the people of Muenster, all of Germany,” said Armin Laschet, the governor of the German state where the attack happened.
“And also the people of the Netherlands, who were sitting here and became victims.” containing gasoline and
