Pedals, feet to star on B’way
THE CITY WILL hand Broadway over to pedestrians and bicyclists this month for its third annual Car Free Day.
Cars will be barred Saturday, April 21, from 2 miles of streets on Broadway — from Union Square to Times Square — and also on St. Nicholas Ave. from 181st to 190th Sts.
“We’re giving the streets back to pedestrians and cyclists,” city Transportation Commissioner Polly Trottenberg said.
New York officials adopted the car-free idea from other cities around the world that carve out a day to travel by any other means than automobile.
The city and businesses will host art exhibits, music and activities, such as Hula-Hoop classes at Herald Square, yoga at Union Square and dance classes at Times Square.
