Nixon gains another nod
ALBANY — Actress Cynthia Nixon’s campaign for governor gained the support of another progressive activist group Tuesday.
Citizen Action of New York, which boasts a statewide membership 30,000 strong, announced its endorsement of Nixon in the Democratic primary against Gov. Cuomo. The group is also backing City Councilman Jumaane Williams over incumbent Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul.
“Our leaders are really enthusiastic that we can trust Cynthia Nixon and Jumaane Williams to make decisions in the best interests of working families and communities of color all across the state,” said the group’s executive director, Karen Scharff.
The endorsement comes a day after New York Communities for Change announced its support for Nixon.
The endorsements are likely to intensify the battle for the Working Families Party nomination as Scharff and Jonathan Westin, executive director of New York Communities for Change, serve as co-chairs of the influential third party. Three other co-chairs, however, are tied to unions that back Cuomo.
