An early arrival for host of ‘Late Night’

- Joe Dziemianowicz

OH, BABY!

An emotional “Late Night” host Seth Meyers launched his 12:30 a.m. show early Tuesday by welcoming his newborn son Axel Strahl Meyers to the world — and thanking his wife for a “rock star”-style delivery.

Meyers recalled that in the mad rush to get his wife Alexi Ashe to the hospital, they got no further than the lobby of their Greenwich Village apartment building — the baby was already making a dramatic entrance.

“My wife just says, ‘I can’t get in the car. I’m going to have the baby right now.’ “She was right. My wife is saying, ‘The baby is coming! The baby is out!’ ” said Meyers, adding that his wife “looked like someone who was hiding a baby in a pair of sweatpants. It was like someone was trying to sneak a baby on a plane.”

Over the course of a minute-long call to 911, Meyers said he went from “We’re about to have a baby” to “We’re having a baby. We had a baby.” Meyers, 44, thanked New York’s Bravest and Finest, whose members arrived at the lobby just after Axel was born and placed on Alexi’s chest. The proud dad shared pictures and gave shoutouts to his doorman and neighbors.

As Myers acknowledged his wife, emotions flooded.

“She’s so amazing . . . as far as the speed in which she took this guy and had him . . . I just watched him like, ‘That kid’s going to be fine forever because of her.’ She’s really amazing,” he said, choking back tears. He joked, “I’m still getting choked up thinking about how brave I was.”
