Vote Dan Donovan

-

The deadline for submitting petitions to run for Congress was midnight Friday. This Saturday morning, we endorse Rep. Dan Donovan in the June 26 Republican primary. Sorry for the delay. After three years in the House representing Staten Island and parts of Brooklyn, Donovan, a solid ex-Staten Island district attorney, has shown himself to be tough on spending and crime, sane on immigration and a loyal-enough party man.

Critically, he also stands up for his city, as he did when he voted against a tax bill that throttled New York. Republican voters should make him their standard bearer again.

His opponent, Michael Grimm, is a hot-head and felon who served in the House for four years, then in federal lockup for seven months for tax fraud. Grimm is also infected with the worst case of Trumpism, appealing to the take-no-prisoners fringe of the GOP.

If Republicans make him their nominee, they’ll almost certainly lose the city’s lone Republican seat to Democrats in November.

Say no to the crook. Vote for Donovan.
