Sewald is big relief for bullpen

-

The Mets may have had their nine-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, but there was one silver lining: Paul Sewald. The right-handed relief pitcher came through in a big way for the Mets in their 5-1 loss by tossing three perfect innings and striking out five after coming into the game in the sixth inning to relieve Matt Harvey.

Because he managed to give them three innings it saved the rest of the bullpen to be available for Sunday’s series finale against the Brewers.

“That was huge. That saved us,” Mickey Callaway said of Sewald. “We’re going to have games like this where somebody is going to have to eat up some innings and he did a great job, went out there and attacked, mixed his pitches well and that was huge for us.”
