Tax deadline tonight
TIME’S UP.
For procrastinators who waited until the last minute to file their 2017 taxes, the last minute is here. Taxpayers have until 11:59 p.m. Tuesday to file, an annual rite of spring fraught with worry and anxiety.
Filers got two extra days to send in their returns because April 15 fell on a Sunday, and April 16 was a holiday, Emancipation Day, in Washington, D.C.
If you can’t file on time and owe money, the IRS says you should file for an extension. Taxpayers will be hit with harsher penalties for not filing than for not paying on time.
