N.J. gym fires 3 in race profiling

- Kate Feldman

THREE NEW Jersey gym workers were reportedly fired after a case of alleged racial profiling went viral.

A series of Facebook videos chronicled how two black men were kicked out of an LA Fitness gym in Secaucus after an employee called police, NJ.com reported on Wednesday.

The footage was posted on a man named Tshyrad Oates’ page. Oates claims he was using a fourday guest pass when he was tossed out Monday. Oates said he was with a friend, who is a longtime member of the gym.

The gym manager allegedly told Oates that he was banned from the gym and his friend’s membership “has been terminated effective immediately.”

“Regrettably, our staff unnecessarily escalated the situation and called the police rather than work through it,” LA Fitness said in a statement to NJ.com.

An employee at the gym told NJ.com that the manager and two other employees had been fired as a result of the incident.
