Bashing feds on new P.R. outage

- Jillian Jorgensen

GOV. CUOMO ripped the federal response to Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico on Thursday and said the state will dispatch more teams to help rebuild the power grid, which was knocked out this week as the territory plunged into an island-wide blackout.

“What we are really seeing is just an inadequate response from the federal government,” Cuomo said at a press conference at his midtown offices. “This effort is not of the same magnitude and commitment of what this country has done in the past. And to me it is a national disgrace.”

Cuomo touted efforts by the state to help Puerto Rico — noting state officials were on the ground immediately after the storm and that they were on the ground to help with the power outage Wednesday. The state sent another 10 people from the New York Power Authority to Puerto Rico Thursday.

He said he’ll return to the island himself on April 29 with an “assessment team.”
