Cops in fatal shoot back at work
TWO CALIFORNIA police officers who shot and killed an unarmed man last month are reportedly back on the job already.
The Sacramento cops returned to work on April 9, three weeks after the deadly confrontation with Stephon Clark, 22, according to the Sacramento Bee.
Police came across Clark while looking into a report of broken car windows on March 18, and opened fire on him in his grandparents’ backyard. The officers thought Clark was holding a gun before they shot him, though only a cell phone was found, police said.
Clark’s death sparked nationwide protests.
According to the Sacramento Bee, the two cops are back at work, but not on patrol.
Sacramento County District Attorney Anne Marie Schubert said Wednesday that it could be more than a year before she decides whether to charge the officers, though the California Attorney General’s Office has also joined the investigation.
The end of the officers' leave also follows the release of dozens of videos from the night Clark was killed, including those that show officers waited about five minutes before getting Clark medical help.
