‘Quiet’ly in 1st at the box office

-

“A QUIET PLACE” squeezed by “Rampage” to take the top spot at the box office this weekend.

The dystopian thriller directed by “The Office” star John Krasinski earned $22 million to narrowly beat out “Rampage,” the sc-fi actioner starring Dwayne Johnson, according to studio estimates.

“Rampage” — already an international hit with a worldwide tally of $283 million — was second with $21 million, but it’s possible those numbers may shift when final results are tallied on Monday.

In third place was the Amy Schumer comedy “I Feel Pretty,” about an insecure woman who gets a life-changing confidence boost after a head injury. It grossed grossed $16.2 million — a little less than half of what Schumer’s “Trainwreck” opened with in July 2015.

The comedy “Super Troopers 2,” about a quintet of Vermont Highway Patrol officers, was in fourth place with a $14.7 million opening weekend, followed by the horror flick “Truth or Dare” with $7.9 million in its second weekend.
