Assembly’s Dov to retire
AFTER MORE than three decades in office, Brooklyn Assemblyman Dov Hikind says he will not run for reelection.
Hikind (photo), 67, announced, in an eight-minute YouTube video posted Wednesday morning, that he was stepping away from public office.
“It's been an amazing 36 years,” Hikind told the Daily News. “I'm very excited about things that are coming the next 10 to 20 years.”
He’s supporting Simcha Eichenstein, director of political and governmental services for the de Blasio administration, as his replacement.
Hikind’s decision comes months after it was revealed that he funneled millions in public funds to a group that was employing his son Yoni, who recently lost a bid for City Council. “There’s Hikind said. no connection,”
Hikind, a Democrat with many conservative positions such as being anti-gay marriage, has long been one of the most influential and powerful Jewish lawmakers in New York. Candidates running for office frequently seek his endorsement.
