$125M to aid NYC students
NEEDY PUBLIC schools will receive another $125 million in city funding, Mayor de Blasio said Tuesday.
The so-called “Fair Student Funding” money will go to 854 city public schools that enroll 588,285 students across all five boroughs.
The funds will be available to schools starting in September and can be used at principals’ discretion to hire staff, buy materials and pay for various programs.
De Blasio blamed Albany politicians for failing to provide the money to city schools themselves. “Even when the state doesn’t act, we don’t stand still,” he said.
City Council Education Committee Chairman Mark Treyger said the funds will provide needed resources for city students. “This has been one of the biggest differencemakers in schools,” Treyger said.
