Pompeo wins top diplo job
PRESIDENT TRUMP’S chief spymaster is now officially his top diplomat.
Outgoing CIA Director Mike Pompeo was sworn in as secretary of state on Thursday shortly after the Senate confirmed his nomination in a slim 57-to-42 vote.
“Having a patriot of Mike’s immense talent, energy, and intellect leading the Department of State will be an incredible asset for our country at this critical time in history,” Trump said.
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito administered the oath of office before Pompeo rushed to Andrews Air Force Base en route to Europe for his first trip in his new role. Pompeo (photo with Kim Jong Un) is expected to travel to Brussels before heading on to the Middle East.
Pompeo’s confirmation was one of the slimmest margins in recent history.
