Cops bust ‘MAGA’ mad hatter in subway shove

NYPD investigators have collared the chump in a bright red “Make America Great Again” Trump hat who shoved a Mexican immigrant onto subway tracks at Union Square last week, police sources said Thursday.

The suspect, identified as Willie Ames, 47, a parolee from Staten Island with family ties to the Wu-Tang Clan, was being questioned for attacking construction worker Luis Lopez about 8:15 p.m. on April 20, the sources said.

Lopez was minding his own business at the station when Ames, sporting the red cap made famous by President Trump’s 2016 campaign, sized him up as a drug-dealing, job-stealing Mexican — then pushed him off the platform and onto the tracks, cops said.

“You come here and you take our jobs!” he screamed, according to cops. “You bring drugs!”

Lopez, who came to America six years ago from Morelos, Mexico, had just finished work. The suspect (photo) followed him off the No. 4 train and started spewing obscenities.

“I don’t know why he targeted me,” Lopez said. “He started yelling that I was there to take his job and that we bring drugs here.

“I fell headfirst,” Lopez previously told the Daily News. “My head hit the railing. I tried to get up, but lost consciousness. I couldn’t move. My friend jumped in to get me out. He saved my life.

“Thank God there wasn’t a train coming — it would have been a sure death. I would have died if it wasn’t for him.”

Lopez was treated at Bellevue Hospital and released.

Police grabbed Ames, 47, in Staten Island on Thursday morning. He has a long criminal history, including a 2008 arrest where he was charged with throwing bleach at people in a deli, a 2011 attempted robbery conviction, and a 2015 bust where cops said he stabbed a man over a dice game.

The charges in the 2015 case were dismissed and sealed, sources said.

He’s also related to Dennis Ames, the son of Wu-Tang Clan founding member Ghostface Killah, who raps under the name “Sun God,” sources said. Ames’ mother defended him as she spoke through her apartment’s closed door in Staten Island’s Park Hill Apartments in Clifton Thursday night.

Her son was attacked by four men because of the Make America Great Again hat on his head, she said.

“They got upset cause he was wearing a Trump hat,” she said.

Ames is no supporter, his mom said, and she’s not sure why he donned the bright red cap.

The group approached him, and he told one of them, ‘Well, y’all living better than us,’” she recounted.

“He said they start swinging so he swinged and he punched one. (He) hit the platform. When he tried to get up, he lost his balance.”

Ames faces assault as a hate crime, aggravated harassment and parole violations, cops said.
