Burns to direct Seaver doc

- BY ERIC BARROW

This certainly sounds Terrific. The Daily News has learned lifelong Mets fan and Queens native Ed Burns will direct a documentary on the storied life of Hall of Fame Mets pitcher Tom Seaver.

The film, expected to be released next year to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the Miracle Mets of 1969, will detail the triumphs and controversies of Seaver’s 20-year career, including that improbable championship season of 1969 when Tom Terrific led the charge with a league-leading 25 wins, the Midnight Massacre that saw a tearful Seaver sent packing to Cincinnati in 1977, and his heroic return in 1983.

Burns, the “The Brothers McMullen” and “She’s the One” director and actor, will be making his documentary directorial debut with the film.

Both Seaver and his wife Nancy will appear in the film, along with Hall of Famers Hank Aaron, Johnny Bench, former teammate Carlton Fisk and former manager Tony LaRussa.

The couple, who made their home in Greenwich, Conn. while Seaver starred for the Mets, now live in the Napa Valley wine country of Calistoga, Calif., where they own a vineyard. The News hears there have been camera drones buzzing over his extensive property of late for the film.

The documentary will also show previously unseen family photos and footage from on and off the field.

Let’s hope that the film, and Burns’ involvement in it, can spark a movement to have a Tom Seaver statue placed outside Citi Field to commemorate the 50th anniversary as well.

What do you say, Wilpons?
