BROKAW, UNDER FIRE, HAS FEMALE SUPPORTERS

-

His wife might seem to hate him, but his French bro seems to love him. Sometimes. Once again Melania tried as hard as she could not to hold the President’s hand during a visit from the French first couple. But not to worry, Trump’s little hands were busy elsewhere-incessantly holding onto the hand of President Emmanuel Macron.

In fact, there was so much hand holding, touching, and grooming between the two world leaders that it was hard to know whether they needed to get a room or a cage.

Trump, so blinded by love of Macron (or maybe so fearful of not appearing to be the dominant male) that he went so far as to publicly brush dandruff off the French president’s shoulder.

In the animal kingdom, that’s called primate grooming by the alpha male. In D.C. that’s called embarrassing behavior by the President.

Worse: As Trump flicked off Macron’s dandruff he told reporters, “In fact, I’ll get that little piece of dandruff off. We have to make him perfect. He is perfect.” Ewww as they say in France. Despite their fine bromance, Macron himself couldn’t help but slam Trump’s worldview when he appeared before a joint session of Congress, and his wife couldn’t help but dish on Melania after the visit.

Macron told Congress, “We can choose isolationism, withdrawal, and nationalism. This is an option. It can be tempting to us as a temporary remedy to our fears. But closing the door to the world will not stop the evolution of the world.” Mon Dieu, Monsieur! Such bad form.

Meantime, French first lady Brigitte Macron dished on Melania to her hometown paper Le Monde saying that she lives like a prisoner.

“She can’t even open a window at the White House,” Macron said, as though she’d stood around watching Melania trying to open the windows all day. “She can’t go outside. She’s much more constrained than I am. I go out every day in Paris.” Lucky you.

No, it’s not because Melania’s husband keeps her in check, it’s because of her security detail. This, mind you, from a woman who used to keep her now-husband in check when he was her teenage student and she was the married mother of three.

This assessment of America’s First Lady’s life is beyond nervy from the kinda-pervy French first lady. Sure, it’s well and good that she and her hubby are so liberal that she’s 24 years his senior, but hello? Oh sorry, but bonjour?

They began “dating” when she was his 40-year-old drama teacher and he was a 16-year-old student. They’re like the French Mary Kay Letourneau (oh, wait that sounds French too), and Vili Fualaau. In the United States you get arrested for that. In France you get elected for that.
