ANAHEIM — Aaron Boone on Saturday compared Gleyber Torres with another highly-regarded young second baseman: Javier Baez of the Cubs. “There’s a confidence, there’s a heartbeat, there’s a clock that he plays with out there that’s really impressive,” Boone said. “More so than I even thought to this point, just watching with eyes the way he goes after the ball. It almost reminds me of Javy Baez a little bit, the way he goes out there. There’s just a real comfort.

“I’ve been really, really pleased with how he’s played and how he’s settled into his days in the big leagues.”

Torres, 21, has hit .273 in his first 22 at-bats, and the Bombers have yet to lose since promoting him.

Torres has also made several slick fielding plays at second.

“He looks like a seasoned second baseman with a shortstop’s arm,” Boone said.

Baez has gotten off to a great start for Chicago, with seven homers and 26 RBIs in his first 24 games.

The Bombers, who have won eight in a row, are a perfect 7-0 since calling up Torres. They’ve also cut what was a 7.5-game deficit in the AL East on April 20 to just two behind the Red Sox
