Thoughts over Gleyber

stairwell from the press conference room to the visitors clubhouse.

“He’s the manager of the Yankees,” a team official said, as Boone continued down the stairs and chuckled following his team’s 11-1 victory over the Angels.

It can get chaotic in the stairwell, with players’ family members also there, making it difficult for security guards trying to make sure the right people with proper clearance get to where they need to go.

STANTON PROPS

Boone heaped praise on Giancarlo Stanton, who made a couple of impressive catches in left field on Friday night.

“I was thinking a lot about him afterwards, just about an NL MVP coming to our team and all that means coming to New York and he’s been a great teammate,” Boone said.

“We’re going to DH you, we’re going to throw you in left, put you in right. And all he’s done is worked his butt off.”

Stanton had an awful spring debut in left when he had trouble with the sun, but he has slowly but surely improved out there.

Going into last night, he was hitting .343 on the road with 10 strikeouts in 35 at-bats and .182 on the road with 29 strikeouts in 66 at-bats.

USC CONNECTION

Boone went to USC. So yes, the Yankees manager was thrilled that fellow Trojan Sam Darnold will be taking his talents to New York as quarterback of the Jets.

“I have to get him out to Yankee Stadium,” Boone said. “I’m excited for that. I’m excited that he’ll be in the Big Apple.”
