Knicks will interview Heat asst. Howard

YOU CAN’T accuse Scott Perry and Steve Mills of taking the lazy approach to their coaching search.

Whereas Phil Jackson only interviewed three candidates two years ago scheduled around a road trip to Montana, the new front office has spoken to or scheduled a sit down with at least 10 people.

The latest name to surface Saturday was Heat assistant coach Juwan Howard, who, a source confirmed, will interview in the coming days.

ESPN reported it could happen as soon as this weekend.

Like many of the candidates, Howard has no head coaching experience. But he did play one season under Perry at the University of Michigan (Perry’s first year as an assistant intersected with Howard’s final season as a junior).

Howard, 45, has been an assistant under Erik Spoelstra at Miami since 2013.

He joins a long list of Knicks interviewees: Mark Jackson, Jerry Stackhouse, David Fizdale, Mike Budenholzer, David Blatt, Jay Larranaga, James Borrego, Kenny Smith and Mike Woodson.

Prior to Howard’s interview being reported by ESPN, a source told the Daily News that rumblings around the league are that the hire will be somebody not mentioned in the media. Howard’s coaching profile is largely unknown but being with the Heat — an organization known for accountability and player development — looks good on the resume, much like with Fizdale.

Miami was eliminated from the playoffs Tuesday by the Sixers.

Perry and Mills were in Europe to interview Blatt this week and scout, among other prospects, Luka Doncic.
