Biz, faith groups slam Airbnb bill
ALBANY — Business groups and faith leaders oppose an Assembly bill to require Airbnb operators to give city enforcement agencies detailed address information about the units they rent.
The bill would “impede the growth of the sharing economy in New York,” says the 2,400-member state Business Council.
A religious group, Mobilizing Preachers & Communities, says the bill will cut off “the very means by which many have been able to keep their homes,” the group says.
Assembly bill sponsor Linda Rosenthal (D-Manhattan) said the bill’s opponents “have done nothing to increase or maintain the affordability of apartments.”
“They’re wiping the market of units that are supposed to be rented by New Yorkers and not tourists,” Rosenthal said.
