Boone: Brandon’s return up in air

-

ANAHEIM — Aaron Boone said no decision has been made yet on whether Brandon Drury will rejoin the Yankees in Houston this week, but the manager wouldn’t rule it out. Drury hit a double in each game of a doubleheader with Triple-A Scranton on Sunday. The 25-year-old played third in Game 1 and DH in Game 2.

Drury has been out since April 7 due to migraines and blurry vision. Miguel Andujar has starred at the hot corner in place of Drury, leaving the Bombers with a potentially tough decision at the position . Clint Frazier, who is attempting to come back from a concussion, homered for Class A Tampa on Sunday in his fourth rehab game there. Frazier is blocked in the outfield in the Bronx.

He could return to Triple-A Scranton on Tuesday, according to the Scranton TimesTribune.

Greg Bird (right ankle surgery), who is in Tampa, was believed to have hit on the field for the first time Saturday, Boone said. He ran sprints and is reported to be feeling well.

The next step is to get him back in minorleague rehab games.

Tommy Kahnle (right shoulder tendinitis) was slated to start playing catch perhaps Sunday. Adam Warren (right back strain) isn’t at that point yet, though he’s progressing, Boone said.

No surprise, but Jacoby Ellsbury (plantar fascia) is progressing slowly, doing some baseball activities of late, yet not on the field.

SUNDAY NIGHT BOONEBALL

Aaron Boone, former analyst on Sunday Night Baseball, had his old ESPN colleagues interviewing him in his office.

“That was interesting,” Boone said. “I’m so consumed with this and all that goes into it every day that I don’t really necessarily reflect on things that much. It’s just tackle the day. That’s how I approach it.”

AARON’S GOT JOKES

After being asked by a security guard for his credential in full uniform on Saturday night in a busy stairwell as he made his way from the press conference room down to the visitors clubhouse, Boone joked to a team official following Sunday night's win: “(Jason) Zillo, do you have my credential?”

Shohei Ohtani, who suffered an ankle injury in Friday's game and did not play the rest of the series, is targeted to pitch this weekend in Seattle for the Angels.
