$250G for kin of B’klyn teen killed by cops
THE FAMILY of Kimani Gray, a 16-yearold boy shot and killed five years ago by cops in Brooklyn who thought he had a gun, has agreed to a $250,000 settlement from the city.
Gray (below with mom Carol), who was with several friends, was shot not far from his home in East Flatbush by two plainclothes cops who said he was reaching in his waistband when they sought to question him.
Authorities said the teen pointed a loaded .38-caliber handgun at cops after he was told to show his hands. But his relatives have long argued that of the seven bullets that hit Gray, three struck him in the back — suggesting he was running away.
A gun was recovered at the scene, but a witness said Gray was not holding a weapon when he was shot.
Neither Gray’s fingerprints or DNA matched what was recovered from the gun, authorities said.
None of the officers involved in the shooting was indicted, sparking massive outrage in the community — where people criticized cops for cuffing the teen as he lay dying in the street
The city Law Department confirmed the settlement sum to the Daily News on Tuesday after Brooklyn Federal Court papers said the sides reached an agreement in principle.
