AG deputy to probe Weinstein case nix
ALBANY — State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman is set to appoint a special deputy to investigate Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr.’s handling of a probe into disgraced former Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein, a source told the Daily News.
The move comes after Gov. Cuomo — more than a month after calling for the investigation — sent Schneiderman a formal referral.
It’s not clear whether the special deputy Schneiderman is appointing is from inside or outside his office.
Schneiderman spokeswoman Amy Spitalnick would only say that “we are committed to pursuing a comprehensive, fair and independent investigation.”
Cuomo on March 19 first called for Schneiderman to probe the situation, but said it wouldn’t start for up to 45 days in order to allow Vance to wrap up any ongoing Weinstein investigations.
“We will cooperate fully with the AG’s inquiry, as we have said previously,” said Vance spokesman Danny Frost.”
