AN 85-YEAR-OLD woman was killed and her 90-year-old husband — a retired NYPD lieutenant — was hospitalized with critical injuries Tuesday when a Jeep slammed into them outside a Brooklyn car wash, officials and witnesses said.

“Where’s my wife? Where’s my wife!” Frank Tornabene could be heard screaming as horrified witnesses tried to render first aid.

A worker was pulling the clean black Jeep Liberty out of the car wash at the Kings One Super Center on Avenue U near Gerritsen Ave. in Sheepshead Bay about 2:50 p.m. when he inexplicably reversed the vehicle into the building, police said.

The vehicle lurched forward and barreled into Frank and Joan Tornabene who were standing behind their own car, a Honda Accord, cops said.

Witnesses said the vehicle backed up — then struck the elderly woman again.

“I saw the woman spin between the two cars,” said Greg Alfred, who manages Greg’s Auto Service across the street from the car wash.

“The car left her and then came back and hit her again. It was the most horrible thing I ever witnessed.

“She had no chance whatsoever,” Alfred, 63, said. “What a horrible way to go.”

Witnesses found the retired lieutenant “under the wheel,” Alfred said. “It was probably the most disgusting thing I ever had to witness,” he said. “It will stay with me for some time.”

A witness who wished not to be named said the Jeep ran over the woman at least three times.

“He cut her legs off. He crushed her,” the witness said. “He didn’t know how to drive. If anyone knew how to drive he wouldn’t have done that.”

Joan Tornabene died at the scene, police said. Medics rushed her husband to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn with life-threatening injuries.

Police said the elderly couple had just put their silver Honda Accord into the car wash.

As it came out of the guided track system, it was struck by the unoccupied Jeep Liberty, which was behind it on the tracks.

One worker had pulled the Honda out of the car wash.

The elderly couple was inspecting the damage to the rear bumper when the Jeep rammed into them, witnesses said.

The driver drove over the couple repeatedly as he tried to back away from them, one witness said.

“The Jeep went over those people in reverse once, then put the car in drive, then went over them a second time and crashed,” said witness Jim Sideris.”

The crash sent the Honda hurtling across the street into a row of parked cars, witnesses said.

Alfred said that cars usually are pulled out of the car wash at a high rate of speed.

“Three out of four times I see cars coming speeding out of there,” he said. The driver remained at the scene. No charges were immediately filed, cops said.

This is the second time in a week someone has been struck by a vehicle at a car wash.

On Saturday in Queens, a car wash worker wiping down a vehicle lost a leg when he ended up getting pinned by another car driven by a co-worker, officials said.
