Cop-stab ma is charged with slay try
A WESTCHESTER County mother faces attempted-murder charges for slashing two police officers who tried to help her dying daughter.
Cynthia Arce, 28, who was shot and wounded in the Saturday afternoon confrontation at her Mamaroneck home, was arrested at Westchester County Medical Center on Tuesday, prosecutors said.
Police were responding to a 911 call at the Chestnut Ave. house where Arce lived with her mother, and her 2-year-old daughter, Gabriella.
Cops found the little girl lifeless, and Arce used “two large sharpened instruments” to slash and stab Officers Osvaldo Ramos and Joseph Gaglione, according to the Westchester district attorney’s office. Ramos’ left hand was sliced as he tried to defend himself and Gaglione, prosecutors allege.
Gaglione, who kicked at Arce to block her attacks, suffered a foot wound, prosecutors said. A third, unnamed officer shot and wounded Arce.
The child died later that day. Autopsy results are still pending. A GoFundMe site in Gabriella’s name alleges that her life “was tragically taken by her mother.”
Martin Rosen, a lawyer for Gabriella’s dad, Stephen Boyd, said Mamaroneck police refused to enforce a judge’s order requiring the girl temporarily be placed in her dad’s custody the day before she died.
